Sundown Police Chief Jeff Foster has released an activity report for the month of February in order to appear transparent with the community as well as keep them up to date with the goings on of the Police Department. February was busy for the dept, according to Foster, with the most major event being that a second officer was hired. Officer Benjamin Bristow started his first day on the 1st of February, with training expected to take 6-8 weeks. Officer Bristow has already made himself at home, going to calls, familiarizing himself with the Department’s code and policies, as well as introducing himself at Sundown ISD. Both Officer Bristow and Chief Foster were fitted for body armor, and ordered equipment continues to turn up, however a slight snag has been struck for the vehicles. Modifying vehicles to transform them into police cruisers requires a fair bit of additional work (Prisoner cage, crash guard, lights, siren, etc.). Currently Sundown PD has delivered a few vehicles to a company in Dallas for upfitting and despite an expected return date somewhere in the beginning of Spring Break, work progresses slowly in that regard. Older model vehicles will be utilized until the new vehicles are in. Chief Foster also states in the report he is open to feedback and welcomes any comment, suggestions or feedback. The PD is located at 706 S. Slaughter in town.
