Man Struck on Exit Ramp to 34th

A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on I-27, early Sunday morning.

Responding to a call at the 3800 block of I-27 just after 6 a.m. police officers located Richard Salazar, 42, on the northbound exit ramp to 34th Street, near a concrete wall on the east side. He was taken to UMC with critical injuries.

Due to a flat tire, Salazar had pulled his vehicle over to the right side of I-27, according to investigators. They believe Salazar was struck by a pick-up truck after he got out of his car and was walking northbound on the 34th Street off-ramp..

The driver of the pick-up truck did stop to render aid, and no arrests have been made at this time.
