Lubbock Police Announce Remains Found in Abandoned House in Hockley County Are That of a Missing Lubbock Woman

Lubbock Police Department announced Tuesday that remains found in Hockley County are from a missing Lubbock woman.

According to information from the Lubbock Police Department, skeletal remains found in April of 2020 in an abandoned house in western Hockley County have been identified as a missing Lubbock woman, Sandy Cervantes. Cervantes was reported missing to the Lubbock Police on February 18th, 2020. Police noted that she had not been seen or talked to since June of 2019.

Cervantes was identified by a forensic odonatologist by comparing Cervantes’ dental records to the teeth of the skeletal remains.

Investigators found Cervantes’ vehicle, a 2006 red Saturn Vue, on fire in June 2019 in the 1000 block of Cesar E Chavez Dr. The arson was investigated by the Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office. Cervantes’ purse was also located in a dumpster in Abernathy and found by individuals who lived nearby. This case is under investigation by the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit.
