A Lubbock murder suspect was taken in to custody Sunday afternoon following a brief pursuit through Levelland.
Anthony Resendez, 26 was arrested by Levelland Police Sunday afternoon following a pursuit. According to information released by the Lubbock Police Department, Levelland Police attempted to make a traffic stop on Resendez, when he fled in a vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended on South College Avenue near South Plains College, Resendez was taken into custody without further incident.
According to Lubbock Police reports, Resendez was wanted on a charge of murder in the shooting death of Mederrick Harper, 43 of Lubbock. Just before midnight on July 9th, Lubbock Police responded to a call of shots fired in the vicinity of 42nd and Avenue Q in Lubbock. Upon arrival Lubbock Police officers found Harper in serious condition suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock where he was pronounced dead.
Resendez remains in custody of the Hockley County Jail, held without bond on the murder warrant out of Lubbock County. He will also face additional charges out of Hockley County including, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention with Previous Convictions, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Aggravated Assault on A Public Servant. Bond has not been set on the charges out of Hockley County.
The murder case remains under investigation of the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit of the Lubbock Police Department.
