Police Make Arrest For Drug Possession Following Traffic Stop

A Levelland Police Officer on routine patrol made a traffic stop with a pedestrian and made an arrest for drug possession.

The officer initiated the stop on a bicyclist which disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of 9th Street and West Avenue. The officer noted the bicycle did not have any lighting equipment which is required by law. The officer activated his emergency lights to initiate the stop, the bicycle then entered a driveway of a residence on 9th street and left the bicycle at the side of the house before walking back towards the officer. The officer noticed the suspect was extremely nervous and was not complying with orders to keep his hands on the hood of the patrol vehicle. The officer then placed the suspect in handcuffs to detain the subject due to officer safety.

The suspect then gave officers permission to search his pockets, telling them he had nothing illegal. Officers found a clear bag with a crystal like substance inside the right front pocket, the substance was identified by officers as methamphetamine. Officers also found a glass pipe. The suspect acknowledged both of the items as being his.

Joe Angel Chagoya, 26 of Levelland was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Less than 1 gram. He was transported to the Hockley County Jail without incident.
