Levelland Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire

Levelland Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire Friday morning at approximately 1:45 am.

When firefighters arrived at the scene at 1313 Avenue J, the home was fully engulfed in flames and actively burning. Two people were in the home at the time the fire started, they were able to get out safely. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the residents of the home and arrived on the scene within two hours. The home was declared a total loss with property damage listed at $40,000 and contents loss estimated at $20,000.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, it appears to have started with a gas space heater in the residence according to fire department reports. All fire crews were clear of the scene by 3:45 am.
