Levelland Woman Indicted in Lubbock on Negligent Homicide

A Levelland woman, Latasha Machado, 41 has been indicted by a Lubbock County Grand Jury on a charge of negligent homicide after an August crash claimed the life of 43 year old Phillip Maples.

Reports indicate on Friday, August 23rd, officers responded to a report of a crash with injuries near 34th Street and the I-27 frontage road. A 2016 Ford Edge was southbound on the I-27 frontage road when it rear-ended a 2003 Ford Mustang.

A passenger in the Mustang identified as Phillip Maples, 43 of Lubbock was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock where he died September 1st from injuries suffered in the accident. The initial police report stated the driver of the Mustang had no injuries. Machado received minor injuries. She failed to control the speed of her vehicle and failed to apply her brakes in a timely manner.

She was arrested September 1st and posted a bond of $40,000 on September 2nd and was released from jail in Lubbock.
