Levelland Police Make Arrest in Racing Incident

The Levelland Police Department made a traffic stop in a racing incident on Sunday. An officer was reportedly assisting another officer on a call when he observed a grey Ford Mustang traveling at a high speed to the east of the location.

The officer left the scene and attempted to locate the vehicle. While searching for the vehicle he was flagged down by a person that claimed the person in the grey Mustang pulled a gun on him and then sped off. The officer was able to make the traffic stop on 14th street. The officer held the subject at gunpoint and awaited backup. Once backup arrived both officers detained the suspect and placed him in handcuffs.

The suspect was patted down and checked for weapons. No weapons were found. Police informed the suspect that he had observed the car traveling at a high rate of speed and throwing rocks while traveling south on West Avenue from Houston Street. The suspect told police he was not on that side of town and he was only visiting Levelland from Midland. Police spoke with the witness who again stated that the suspect had stopped and pointed something that appeared to be a gun pointed at him. Police searched the suspects car and found a vape pen as well as a car diagnosis tool, that police say the suspect could have held in a manner to appear as a gun.

The suspect identified as Brandon Duarte was placed under arrest and transported to the Hockley County Jail.
