Levelland Police made an arrest for DWI on Sunday.
An officer reportedly made a traffic stop on a vehicle in 1900 Block of College Avenue. The vehicle was stopped due to an expired registration from 2017. According to the police report as the officer was approaching the drivers side of the vehicle the driver rolled up the drivers window and opened the door to exit the vehicle. The officer did a pat down on the driver for officer safety and had the driver stand in front of the patrol car.
The officer called for backup and also noticed an open container of beer in the center console. The driver advised that it was from earlier in the day. The officer removed the container and placed it on the hood of the patrol car. The second officer arrived and they initiated a standard field sobriety test. The driver, now identified as Eliud Escamilla was not able to complete the field sobriety test. He was placed in handcuffs and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Hockley County Jail Intoxilyzer room. A breathalyzer test was performed, indicated an alocohol level of .373. While en-route to the jail, dispatch advised officers that Escamilla had two prior convictions for Driving While Intoxicated.
He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More offense. The office also confiscated his drivers license.
