Fire Department Battles Grass Fire in Western Hockley County

Levelland fire crews responded to a brush fire at FM 1490 and Monaco Road in western Hockley County. The fire was reported on the Cobb Ranch.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found approximately 10 acres of land actively burning. An oilfield employee was on the scene and advised that the fire was possibly started by a downed power line. The electric company was called to the scene.

Firefighters worked for approximately two hours to get the blaze under control. A neighboring fire department was called in to provide mutual aid by Levelland and Hockley County Emergency Management due to the amount of dry grass in the area.

There were no injuries reported and no property damage reported. Just over 10 acres of land was reported as burned in the fire.
