Levelland Police Make Arrest for Assault/Family Violence

Levelland Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 Block of 9th street in reference to a 911 hang up call. Dispatch advised officers the caller told them to never mind.

Three officers responded and found a female identified as Erica Resendez which had red marks around her neck. Erica spoke with officers, and when asked about the red marks on her neck, she said she gets red marks from the heat and that no one had assaulted her. Her mother, Scarlet Sorum then spoke to officers stating that a male subject named Juan had assaulted Erica. Erica continued to tell officers that Juan had not assaulted, that he had grabbed her in a “hugging” manner. Scarlet advised officers that Juan had pushed Erica and slapped her as well. Officers on scene, based on questioning decided to arrest Juan Resendez III, 26 on Assault/ Family Violence charges. Erica continued telling officers that Juan did not assault her and that her mother was lying because she didn’t like Juan.

Scarlet gave a written statement to police. Juan was arrested and taken to the Hockley County Jail. He is being held on a $5,000 bond. He has a lengthy criminal history in Hockley County including several Assault Charges, various Drug Charges as well as various traffic offenses.
