The Levelland Friends of Scouting joined community leaders in recognizing Stephen John as the Distinguished Citizen for 2019. He was recognized on Friday at a noon luncheon.
Stephen John is the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at South Plains College. He has worked 37 years as a college administrator in Levelland where he has been an advocate for public education on all levels. He has served in leadership roles with the Levelland Chamber of Commerce and was recognized by the Chamber Board as its Citizen of the Year for 2018. John has also provided community service through his active membership in the Levelland Breakfast Rotary Club. His volunteer service to Scouting was recently recognized by the South Plains Council Boy Scouts of America as a 2019 recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
The Friends of Scouting program provides a way for Scout alumni and individuals to support Scouting through financial contributions and pledges made to the South Plains Council.
The South Plains Council serves more than 2,000 youth each year in a variety of Scouting programs that build character, citizenship and life skills. More than 30 boys are involved in the Cub Scout program in Levelland.
