On Saturday, February 23, fifty five members of your Levelland Lobo Band competed in the UIL Region 16 Solo and Ensemble Competition at Coronado High School in Lubbock. The Lobo Band returned home with 65 First Division medals for their efforts. The Lobo Band received First Division ratings on a Flute Choir, a Clarinet Choir, two ensembles
consisting of 5 brass players, a Six or More Brass entry with 12 brass players and 3 percussionists, a Wind and Percussion Ensemble of 24 players, and a Class One Trombone Solo. In total, the Lobo Band anticipates travelling to Austin in June with the following instrumentation:

10 flutes
5 clarinets
6 saxophones
8 trumpets
4 French horns
6 trombones
1 Euphonium
1 Tuba
3 Percussion

The students receiving Division One ratings received a gold medal for Superior performance in Region level UIL Competition. Director of Bands, Will Burks said, “We are extremely proud of our medalists for their achievement on Saturday. We are equally as proud of those who performed and came just short of the Superior Rating. The playing ability and level of performance is improved because they made the effort to prepare a solo or ensemble. Bottom line is that practice is never a losing effort. You always become a better player.

State qualifying Lobo Band members will travel to Austin on June 1-3 to compete in the prestigious Texas State Solo and
Ensemble Competition. Award winning instrumentalists from across the country gather to adjudicate and provide constructive comments to Texas band students at this annual event.
