Filing ended on Friday for the area school and city elections.
As of the close of business on Friday, for Levelland City Council, District B and D are on the ballot. Max Ledesma, the incumbent for the District B seat has filed for re-election and no one else filed for the seat. Joe Bill Vardeman is the incumbent for the District D seat on the council and no one else filed for that seat. The City of Levelland will still have an election on May 4th, 2019 to allow voters to reauthorize the current Street Maintenance Sales Tax. The sales tax expires, October 31st, 2019 and in order to continue collecting that sales tax it must be renewed by voters.
Levelland ISD will have an election for the District 3 seat on the board. The seat is currently held by Rusty Gibson who has filed for re-election, Michael Stafford has also filed for that position. The District 1 seat on the board is currently held by Paul Ochoa, Ochoa has declined to run for another term. As of the close of business on Friday no one had filed for the position.
Early Voting for the May 4th election will be April 22nd through April 30th. Voting will take place at the Hockley County Elections Office on Austin Street in the Courthouse Annex building.
