The Levelland Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors met Thursday afternoon in a regular meeting.
The board authorized Director, David Rushing and City Manager, Erik Rejino to continue negotiations with a company that has committed to locating in the Industrial Rail Park. The company is looking to locate in Lot #8, just to the west of Penny Newman Grain. The company is looking to build a new facility with an estimated $4-$5 Million in new capital and 25 employees to start with in year one. The EDC has not named the company as of yet, pending final negotitions. The EDC has authorized the application for a Texas Community Development Block Grant to help build the rail spur for the company. The EDC will also have to bring water and sewer to the property. It was also noted that the EDC will be applying for a Texas Economic Development grant as well.
The board also received the monthly financial report. It was noted that sales tax collections for the city in December were up just slightly from last year and the EDC has received a check for $77,000 for their portion of December collections.
The EDC also reviewed the monthly rail report, noting that Titan had 320 cars in January. Other companies in the rail park file reports on a quarterly basis. Rail traffic remains strong in the rail park.
