Lubbock Police Department Accident Investigation team continues to investigate a fatal bus vs. pedestrian accident in west Lubbock this morning.
According to Lubbock police the accident occurred on West 19th street near the intersections of Inler and Alcove. Police blocked off 19th street while the investigation was conducted. The bus was owned by Levelland ISD and according to Levelland ISD officials the bus was carrying 15 students and a coach to an extracurricular event in Lubbock. The bus reportedly struck a pedestrian on 19th street. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene according to police reports. Levelland ISD officials have confirmed that no one on the bus was injured. After witness statements were taken the students and coach were returned to Levelland and Levelland ISD has offered counseling services to all involved.
Superintendent, Jeff Northern released a brief statement Tuesday morning stating, The entire Levelland ISD community is deeply saddened by this event. The superintendent asks that we offer our prayers and support for the family of the pedestrian who was involved in this unfortunate accident.
As a result of this accident, KLVT News has spoke to witnesses of another multi-vehicle accident which caused significant damage to other vehicles in the area where police was detouring traffic away from the first accident.
