The City of Levelland and Levelland ISD have announced a public meeting for Thursday in reference to a parking issue in the Holly Heights addition south of the High School.
The meeting will be held Thursday, January 31st, 2019 in the Levelland High School Commons at 6:30 pm. City officials will give a presentation on proposals for restricted parking in the area which City Council has discussed.
At a December city council meeting, LHS Principal Robbie Phillips said he had received several complaints from residents of the Holly Heights area concerning parking during school hours. At that meeting it was said that the school could not force students to park in the parking lot since it is not illegal to park on a public street. It was discussed that any restricted parking would also apply to residents of the neighborhood not just students. At a recent January meeting Police Chief Albert Garcia expressed concerns about implementing a restriction and upsetting residents when they received a ticket for parking in front of their own property. At the January meeting city council looked at restricting parking on every street between Alamo and Flint south of the high school and would also be a no parking zone on Hickory near the high school. They discussed making the restriction from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to make it a little less restrictive to residents.
KLVT News has talked to LHS Principal Robbie Phillips who advised that student parking permits are free of charge and their is no restricted parking in the north parking lot which is the student parking lot.
