Levelland Police Department officers responded to the area near United Supermarkets in the 500 block of College Avenue in Levelland on Thursday morning around 9:45 am.
According to statement from Levelland Police, they received a call of a subject wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun was seen getting out of a vehicle at United. The subject was then seen walking east on Cherry. Police said they had officers on the scene within minutes and was unable to immediately locate the suspect. More officers joined in the search and patrolled in the area for over an hour looking for the suspect. After 11:00 am, officers located the vehicle in question in the 100 block of Cherry. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, however, as of late Thursday no arrest had been made in regards to this case, according to Captain Tammie McDonald with the Levelland Police Department.
It was reported that at no time was their an active shooter, hostage or any threat to the general public, as was reported by several individuals on social media.
Levelland Police did say that they had several businesses in the area as well as several government offices and banks to lock their doors for a short time as a matter of precaution.
