The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a deadly accident on Friday in Northern Hockley County.
According to Lt. Bryan Witt with the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to an accident on US Highway 84, just east of Anton, at just after 7:00 pm Friday. According to reports, cattle was loose in the roadway and one cow was struck by a Jeep Cherokee. A few minutes later, a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling south struck the carcass, causing the vehicle to roll over. One of occupants of the Chevrolet Cobalt was pronounced dead at the scene and two other occupants were transported to University Medical Center with Serious Injuries.
Texas DPS has not released any further information. Lt. Witt said the investigation is ongoing.
DPS troopers also responded to a second fatal accident in Cochran County later Friday night. According to reports a head-on collision occurred on Highway 125 between Whiteface and Bledsoe. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another person was reportedly air lifted to a Lubbock hospital with critical injuries. The investigation into this accident also continues and no further information has been released.
