Levelland City Council met in a special meeting on Monday night.
The council took action to approve a resolution with the Texas Department of Transportation for closing two blocks of a state highway for the 2018 Trunk or Treat event on Wednesday. The council approved the agreement to close Houston Street and Avenue H for the event. Approximately 20 businesses and churches are scheduled to participate. The entire south side of the square will be reserved for first responders, police department, sheriff’s office and city public works department to showcase their equipment. The library will also be hosting the haunted library again this year. Their will be booths on all sides of the square this year. The annual event is hosted each year by the Levelland Main Street program and the Levelland Ministerial Alliance.
The council also took action to close Houston street and Avenue H as well as the 2 city streets around the square for the Ladies Night Out event on Thursday, November 8th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. They are expecting approximately 1,000 people for this years event. This Main Street event is a finalist for the Promotional Event category for the Texas Downtown Association and has been awarded the People’s Choice Award in the Promotional Category for the Texas Downtown Association.
The council also approved an event application for the Ladies Night Out event to be held November 8th. It was noted since alcohol will be served at the event, it does require city council approval. It was approved on a unanimous vote.
