Local DPS Sergeant to Retire With 30 Years of Service

DPS LogoSgt. John Gonzales, Texas Department of Public Safety public information and safety education officer for DPS, Lubbock district has announced he will retire at the end of September.  Gonzales, known to many as “Trooper John” even after his promotion to Sergeant.

Sgt. Gonzalez began his career with DPS when he was 23.  Over his career he has served in highway patrol, public information and safety education.  Lt. Bryan Witt and Sgt. Gonzalez have been friends for 25 years and have worked together for the last six years.  Witt is Lieutenant for the public information and safety education department with DPS Lubbock.  Witt said he admires Gonzalez’s work ethic and compassion.  Witt said Gonzalez puts in the effort to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the citizens it protects and serves.

Sgt. Gonzalez will retire at the end of the month.  He plans to stay in Lubbock and looks forward to spending time with his family.
