According to a statement released by Senator John McCain’s family, the Senator and lifetime public servant passed away Saturday afternoon at 4:28 pm at his ranch in Sedona, AZ.
McCain has undergone cancer treatment for the past year, however, his family announced on Friday due to the progression of the disease he was stopping treatment on Friday, August 24th. McCain was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in July, 2017.
His family thanked the many caregivers for their help and support during the illness and treatment. They also thanked the public for their many prayers.
McCain served as Senator from Arizona from January, 1987 to his death. He also was chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, past chair of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, past chair of the Senate Commerce Committee. He also served as the member of the US House of Representatives from Arizona’s first district. He also was the 2008 Republican Nominee for President. McCain served in the United States Navy from 1958-1981 retiring with the rank of Captain. He earned many awards during his time of service and former POW during the Vietnam War.
