Big Impact and Big Fun for the First Ever Hockley County Endowment’s Soil and Oil Soiree

HockleyCoEndowment-logo2The Hockley County Endowment met Wednesday evening to wrap up the 2018 Soil and Oil Soiree and have already begun planning next year’s event, scheduled for April 27,2019.

“This event was designed to have a big impact on the general fund, individual funds and to be a lot of fun for our community in the process,” said Hockley County Endowment President Michael Wiiest. “I believe our numbers prove that impact and hopefully the smiles on the faces of those that attended the event is proof of the latter.”

As the donations have wrapped up for the event, the Hockley County Endowment is proud to announce that over $38,000 was netted with the general fund growing by over $20,000 and individual funds adding to their numbers as well.

One of the goals of the event was to provide the specific purpose funds inside the endowment, a chance to re-engage, re-energize and grow their funds. The board provided some incentive to the funds in the way of a $5,000 matching grant that would be awarded to the fund who raised the most money. That entity was the Hockley County Historic Society that raised over $6,000 and along with the $5,000 matching
monies were able to put a total of $11,660 into their fund. Other individual funds grew their numbers as follows:

Levelland MainStreet Fund: $2700
The Wallace Theater Fund: $1550
South Plains College Commercial Music Fund: $1030
Levelland ISD Capitol Elementary: $578.49
Hockley County Meals on Wheels Fund: $500
James and Sycily Lattimore Fund; Hockley County Senior Citizens & Meals on Wheels: $130

“The Soiree was a tremendous milestone for the Hockley County Endowment as we celebrated ten years of service to the people of Hockley County.   The Advisory Board worked very hard to make the evening special and entertaining as those who attended. The Soiree also gave people an opportunity to see the value and achievements of the endowment over the past ten years and in the future. I’m so looking forward to next year’s ‘Soil & Oil Soiree’.” Joey Pierce

The board has set April 27th as the date for the 2019 Soil and Oil Soiree and plans to announce details by Thanksgiving of 2018.

The board also discussed the coming grant cycle which is currently open to applications. Qualifying 501c3 have until May 31st to have their applications postmarked to be eligible for funds.

All funds applying will be required to make a grant presentation to the Hockley County Endowment Board. Those presentations will be made on June 19th at Levelland City Hall.

The board will deliberate on those proposals for grants on July 10th and will hold a press conference shortly after with their decisions.
