There have been intermittent gas shortages reported around the south plains. The issue seems to be short term in nature and could have several reasons.
United Family Corporation announced Saturday afternoon that United Express was experiencing intermittent gas supply shortages. The United Express location in Levelland had a sign on their pumps Saturday night noting they only had regular unleaded fuel at the time. It was also noted that two Stripes locations were out of fuel Saturday night in Levelland while a third Stripes location had fuel available. Murphy USA in Levelland was also out of fuel Saturday night, a clerk at that location was not able to comment. Other stations in Levelland had fuel.
United Family corporation released a statement saying “the demand in the region is currently outpacing the regions available supplies,” according to Angelos Lambis, Director of Fuel and Convenience for United Express. United Express said they remain committed to limiting the impact to guests and will work to obtain fuel from other sources.
Late Saturday, Phillips 66 cited an issue at their refinery in Borger, noting that the refinery is operating at less than normal standards. He noted the company is working to provide gas and diesel to this area and is contracted with third party purchases, and using backup terminal locations where possible. A spokesperson for Phillips 66 refineries said that any shortage should be “short term” and “isolated.”
