The City of Levelland held the 2nd Annual Volunteer Celebration luncheon on Friday. They recognized individuals who serve on 15 volunteer boards who are appointed by the Levelland City Council.
Those 15 boards include the Airport Advisory Board, Animal Shelter Advisory Board, Cemetery Advisory Board, Community Development Board, Construction Advisory Board, Housing Authority Board, Economic Development Board, Planning and Zoning Board, Board of Adjustment, Housing Standard Commission, Tax Increment Finance Board and the Main Street Advisory Board.
The Main Street program recognized their 2018 Main Street Hero, Tanner Terrell. Terrell moved to Levelland in 2012 and joined the Main Street Advisory board in 2014. He has served a President of the board and is currently serving a term as past president. He is an Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Levelland. He helped to spearhead the first annual Sip and Swirl event for Levelland with the second annual Sip and Swirl set for June 2018. He has also been instrumental in several other community organizations and committees.
The George R. Keeling Mainstreet Hero award was presented to Tania Moody. The award is given to someone who gives selfishly of their time to the betterment and improvement of the Levelland Mainstreet program. Moody has given time and time again to the many community organizations and always gives of her time to Mainstreet programs. She has served on the LISD School Board, Levelland Main Street Advisory Board, Community Foundations of West Texas, Hockley County Endowment, Hockley County American Cancer Society Relay for Life committee, South Plains Association of School Boards, Wallace Theater Board, Marigolds, Planning committee for the Covenant Hospital and South Plains College Galas, Mallet Event Center planning committee and the Noon Rotary Club.
Mayor Barbra Pinner concluded the event by drawing for the winner the Mainstreet/Marigolds trip raffle, Gail Downs was the winner and will have her choice of one of four different trips.
