Lubbock House Explosion Claims the Life of Two and Injures Three

Lubbock Fire Rescue logoLubbock Fire Rescue and the Lubbock Police Department are investigating a house explosion and fire in the Tech Terrace area near 21st and Boston in Lubbock on Tuesday night around 10:00 pm.

Lubbock Fire Department received the call around 10:00 pm on Tuesday night.  Reports from the fire department indicate that one person found deceased upon arrival, three other people suffered serious injuries and were transported to UMC in Lubbock. A Lubbock firefighter also suffered minor injuries in fighting the blaze.   The victim has been identified as John Fleming, 72 of Lubbock.  Rodica Gelca, 45 was pronounced dead at UMC early this morning.

Hazmat teams were called out to the scene to assist and told residents to avoid breathing the smoke as the fire could have been caused by potentially dangerous chemicals.  The Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office and the Lubbock Police Department is investigating the blaze.  The Lubbock Police Department said their Personal Crimes Unit detectives were called to the scene and continue to investigate.
