A runoff election is set in Cochran County following a recount this week in two commissioners races.
Matt Evans, a candidate in the commissioners race for Precinct 2 had requested a recount in hopes of avoiding a runoff according to elections administrator, Cheryl Butler. She said the re-count resulted in three additional votes for Bruce Heflin and did not change the results for Matt Evans. Final count showed Evans with 81 votes and Heflin with 63. Butler said a runoff will be required in the race.
A runoff is also scheduled in the commissioners race for Precinct 4. The recount resulted in additional votes for both candidates. The final count showed Jake Timmons with 44 and Reynaldo Morin with 45.
The runoff election for both races will be held on May 22 and early voting will be held May 14th through the 18th.
The early voting location will be in the county clerk’s office in the Cochran County Courthouse.
Polling locations for election day will include:
The basement of the Cochran County courthouse for Pct. 1, 3 and 4
Whiteface Elementary School for Pct. 2
and the County Barn on the Bledsoe Highway for Pct. 3.
