South Plains College and the Levelland Main Street program and Levelland Marigolds have teamed up for a large Christmas event on Thursday night.
The event will begin on the South Plains College Campus near the main entrance of the college at 6:00 pm Thursday with the annual Christmas Tree lighting. Following the lighting of the Christmas trees at the main entrance of SPC the Main Street program will host the annual Christmas Lighted Parade. The parade will begin at 6:10 pm at the corner of Magnolia and College Avenue. The parade will turn north on College Avenue and continue to Houston street before turning west on Houston and continuing to the Gazebo on the courthouse square where the parade will disband. Santa will then visit with children at the Gazebo at 6:30 pm.
Streets will not be totally closed during the parade and all participants must be on a float or in a motorized vehicle. Participants will not be allowed to walk or ride bicycles in the parade this year. The parade will be led by the Levelland Police Department and they will block intersections as the parade approaches, however, the streets will not be closed down completely.
Floats in the parade must be lit or glow in the dark. The theme for the parade is “Songs of Christmas.”
Festivities on the square will begin at 6:30 pm and last until 8:00 pm. Levelland ISD Choirs will perform on the courthouse lawn, hot chocolate will be sold by SPC students and horse drawn carriage rides will also be given around the square. The Wallace Theater will host the SPC Ballroom dance team. They will perform at 6:45 pm and 7:30 pm.
The Levelland Marigolds will once again host the downtown window decorating contest for all businesses within the Main Street District. Judging will take place on Wednesday, November 29 at dark.
