klvtnewsbannerKERMIT, TX:  A two vehicle accident northeast of Kermit has claimed the life of an Andrews man and injured another.  The accident occurred on State Highway 115, two miles northeast of Kermit in Winkler County.  According to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2015 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by 60 year old Steven Fear of Amarillo was towing a semi-trailer north on State Highway 115 when he collided with a second truck driven by an Artesia, NM man.  A passenger in the second truck was pronounced dead at the scene.  Others involved received only minor injuries.

CARSON COUNTY, TX:  The Texas Department of Public Safety said no one was injured after a helicopter crashed in a field in Carson County.  The crash happened on FM 2880, north of I-40.  According to DPS, Michael Friemel, 26 of Groom was operating the Bell 206 helicopter.  He only received minor injuries.  The FAA and NTSB will be investigating the accident.

AMARILLO, TX:  A Southwest Airlines flight on its way to Amarillo made an emergency landing after a smoke detector on board the airplane went off.  The Amarillo Fire Department responded and said the smoke was detected in a restroom on the Boeing 737 plane.  There was no malfunction with the airplane.

MIDLAND, TX:  Midland City Councilman John Love III has been elected as President-Elect of the Texas Municipal League.  The TML has a board of appointed officials from the member cities.  Love is the second city official from Midland to serve as a TML officer.
