Macroburst Winds Cause Major Damage in Levelland Tuesday Morning

20170704_072753Xcel Energy crews have been out since 4am Tuesday morning trying to restore power throughout Levelland.

Xcel Energy reported over 1,300 customers were without power around 4:30am and crews were assessing the situation.  The main portions of damages appeared to be on Highway 385 between Highway 114 and Ellis.  Due to debris being blown across Highway 385 including numerous storage buildings and carports from a dealer located in front of the Best Western on Highway 385.

Texas Department of Transportation closed highway 385 to traffic between highway 114 and Ellis.

KLVT News was out early evaluating damage.  We noted a downed power line east of Levelland along highway 114, which is down over the Cedar intersection which is closed south of 114.  As of mid-morning Xcel Energy reports their are approximately 375 customers remaining without power.

The Penny Newman Grain storage facility was demolished in the Levelland Industrial Rail Park.  Crews were assessing the situation this morning.
