Texas Rangers Investigate Officer Involved Shooting in Lamb County

Texas Rangers GenericThe Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting by a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy during a multi-agency investigation in Littlefield.

The shooting occurred in the 400 block of South Wicker in Littlefield when officers were serving a search warrant.  Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Bryan Taylor said that preliminary reports indicate that the deputy observed the suspect standing in the garage with an object in his hand that the deputy believed to be a weapon.  The deputy reportedly gave the suspect verbal commands to get on the ground, which the suspect did not comply with.  The suspect began to raise the object and the deputy shot him.

The suspect, Zahir Alexander Rivera-Pineda, 27 was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.

Joseph Rey Jaramillo, 30 and Arnoledo Mendoza Lepez, 44 were both booked into the Lamb County Jail on charges of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance over 200 grams.

The Texas Rangers continue to investigate the case and all evidence will be turned over to the Lamb County District Attorney’s Office.
