South Plains College Hosts Law Enforcement Officer Memorial


South Plains College Law Enforcement program hosted the annual Peace Officer Memorial on Wednesday at the main entrance to the college.

The event remembers the law enforcement officers who lost their life while serving and protecting citizens across the United States.  Over 140 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in the US in 2016.  25 of those officers lost their lives in Texas.

The keynote address was presented by Captain Scott Hudgens of the Lubbock Police Department.  He has been with Lubbock Police for more than 30 years and has served as a member of the South Plains College Law Enforcement Technology Advisory Committee since 2007, he is currently chairperson of the committee.

The SPC Law Enforcement Honor Guard presided over the event with the assistance of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
