The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate a three vehicle accident which occurred Tuesday morning near the intersection of Highway 114 and FM 168. The accident occurred at shortly after 7:40am.
DPS reports indicate 84 year old Betty Yeary of Levelland was attempting to turn left from the eastbound lanes of 114 when she failed to yield the right of way to a pickup traveling west on 114. The two collided causing both vehicles to come to rest in a ditch near the westbound lanes and the service road, a third crash then occurred with a pickup which was stopped at the stop sign on the service road.
Yeary was airlifted by AeroCare to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock with critical injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital around 1pm Tuesday due to complications from injuries suffered in the accident, according to DPS. Two passengers in Yeary’s car, a 13 year old and a 11 year old were transported by ambulance to a Lubbock hospital with moderate injuries and a five year old was transported by private vehicle to Lubbock for treatment.
DPS had officers on the scene along with Texas Department of Transportation workers late yesterday afternoon and the investigation continues.
