Levelland Fire Department Responds to Fire at Center Point Gin

Fire Department LogoLevelland Fire Department crews responded to a cotton burr fire at Center Point Gin Thursday at just after 10:30am.

Two units of the Levelland Fire Department along with a crew from Whiteface Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze.  They used a front end loader from Hockley County Precinct 3 to help create fire breaks and fought the blaze for several hours.  Dry grass vegetation surrounding the cotton burrs made fighting the fire difficult as well as winds approaching 30 mph at the time of the blaze.

Levelland Fire Chief Bill Durham spoke to KLVT News from the scene late yesterday afternoon and Fire Crews were still on the scene.
