Levelland Fire Truck Involved in Accident While Responding to Emergency Call

A Levelland Fire Department Tanker Truck driven by Royce Ewings  was responding to a fire west of Levelland Thursday morning around 11am when he was involved in a traffic accident.

KLVT News was first on the scene of the accident which occurred at the intersection of Hwy 385 and 114 in Levelland.  The fire truck was traveling north on 385 with all lights and sirens activated, he was attempting to turn left on to 114 when a black dodge pickup driven by Jose Rodriguez, of Levelland traveling east on 114 failed to yield right of way for the emergency vehicle and the two collided in the intersection.  The fire truck hit the pick-up on the back passenger side and the impact flipped the pickup around into a red ford pickup  driven by Jerry Corgill of Levelland stopped at the traffic light.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, no further information has been released.  Levelland police say the traffic light for the fire truck was red and the pickup had a green light.  No citations have been issued as of yet.  Police do say that emergency vehicles must practice due caution while en route to emergency scenes according to Texas State Law.
