Levelland Middle School Principal Brad Clanton set down with KLVT News to explain how this project come about and it is all part of a class assignment to help STARR Test scores.

LMS has an abbreviated regular schedule on Wednesday mornings and then a special schedule on Wednesday afternoons for STARR test preparations.  As part of the schedule on Wednesday, this year Clanton instituted what he termed “Writing Wednesday.”  He said each class is given an assignment each week to write and explain an answer to an open ended topic.  On Wednesday, February 1 following the airing of a story on KCBD TV in Lubbock the Social Studies Classes at LMS and the 7th Grade Writing Academy had the assignment to write a Birthday message to Mr. Hardin thanking him for his service and wishing him a Happy Birthday on Sunday.

As part of the story on KCBD it was noted that the Hardin Family would like for the elder Hardin to receive 100 Birthday cards to celebrate his birthday.  A LMS teacher heard the story and immediately asked for clearance from her campus administration to use that for a writing topic this week.  Over 200 birthday cards from LMS students are being sent to Mr. Hardin in Lubbock.
