Brownfield Residents Furious over Cemetery Rules

letstalkBrownfield residents gathered at the cemetery in Terry county to voice their displeasure with management.  They said they were upset that rules which have been in place for several years and were not enforced and now management says they must be followed.

Some of those regulations included removing all items from the grave site, except for the headstone.  The rules which the Terry County Cemetery Association said is combination of local and state regulations were to be enforced beginning January 1.  A sign in front of the cemetery listed the new enforcement policy.

Many frustrated families stated that they help to maintain the grave-sites and the maintenance crews have done little to keep the property in good condition.

The Terry County Cemetery Association said the goal of the enforcement is to make maintenance of the cemetery easier.  It was also noted their were 2 public hearings held in 2016 about the enforcement before it began.  Talks have been ongoing since 2015.

Citizens agree that the cemetery had a maintenance problem and they hope to be able to work with the association to move forward.
