Hockley County Voters came out strong to elect a new Sheriff on Tuesday. Ray Scifres overwhelmingly won the Sheriff’s race over write-in candidate James Warren in Tuesday’s election. After the election Scifres posted a statement on facebook, thanking the voters of Hockley County and said he is “ready to begin the next phase.”
When the final votes were counted, Scifres received 6,048 votes or 94.6% of the votes to James Warren, 343 votes or 2.7%.
Hockley County elections administration officials reported a strong turnout by voters in both early voting and on election day. This years election could go down as one of the largest in the history of the county. 7,362 votes were cast in the election, that is 53.5% of the 13,770 registered voters in Hockley County. According to historic election returns from the Secretary of States office for General Elections, this years election is the 4th highest in 24 years with the highest turnout reported in the 1992 General Election with 7,868 votes cast.
