A female student died of what appears to be a self inflicted gunshot would at Alpine High School this morning according to information released by Brewster County Sheriff Ronnie Dodson. Dodson said his agency was the first to arrive on the scene.
Reports indicate that the initial report was called in to the Alpine Police Department at 9am. The sheriff said that the shooter turned the gun on herself after shooting another student at Alpine High School. All Alpine ISD campuses were immediately placed on critical lock-down and was dismissed for the day at just before noon.
The initial investigation indicates approximately 5 shots were fired inside the school. A report also came in that police are investigating a bomb threat at nearby Sul Ross State University. The campus was also placed on lock-down.
Sheriff’s office reports also indicate that a Federal Law Enforcement Officer suffered a gunshot wound when another law enforcement officers weapon discharged. The Federal officer is being treated at the hospital for his injuries. The student which was shot initially is also being treated for non life threatening injuries.
