Former Levelland High School Softball Coach Scot Justin Hays, 41 of Lubbock was arrested at 12:06pm this afternoon in Lubbock by the Texas Department of Public Safety on 2 warrants out of Hockley County. He was reportedly arrested by a Texas Ranger at a retail store in Lubbock Thursday.
The Hockley County District Attorney’s office told KLVT News that the warrants were issued out of their office.
According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Jail Report Hays was arrested on a charge of Online Solicitation of a Minor and Indecency with a Child – Sexual Contact. Both are second degree felony’s. According to the indictments released by the DA’s office late Thursday, Hays is accused of having sexual contact with a minor under the age of 17 on April 29, 2016 and again on May 5, 2016. He is also accused of soliciting another minor under the age of 17 by text message on May 13, 2016
Hays resigned from Levelland ISD on May 26, according to a statement previously released by LISD he was under investigation of “an allegation of possible inappropriate electronic communication with another LISD teacher or coach and a LISD Student at that time. Levelland Police Department performed the criminal investigation.
According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Jail Report, Hays was released on a total of $15,000 bond at approximately 9pm Thursday night.
