Lyntegar Electric Cooperative, Inc. has found multiple sites in Yoakum and Gaines Counties where vandals have struck and broken electric meters and meter bases with an unknown object. This equipment is beyond repair and must be replaced.
There have also been multiple electric power transformers that have apparently been shot with a rifle.
These actions are not only costly to repair, which affects our membership, but they are extremely dangerous. Striking a meter or meter base with a blunt object can have severe repercussions, and even result in death.
When our distribution system is vandalized in this way, it results in the loss of power to the affected meters. Residences, irrigation wells, oil wells, and other services are off until we can replace the equipment. While we restore power as quickly as we can, these members are negatively affected because of the acts of these vandals.
Lyntegar is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the apprehension and prosecution of the individuals responsible for this vandalism.
If you have any information you are asked to contact Lyntegar Electric Cooperative directly at 877-218-2308. We will also be working with Yoakum and Gaines Counties’ CrimeLine.”
