The latest update from Xcel Energy…..
Xcel Energy is continuing power restoration efforts in our Texas-New Mexico service area tonight. At the present time we are working 99 outage events in Clovis, N.M., accounting for 4,324 customers without power. The Clovis numbers dipped under 3,000 earlier, but high winds and snow continue to batter our distribution system there, and with closed and impassable roads, our abilities to move quickly to restore power are greatly hampered. We don’t have an estimated restoration time for these customers, and it’s very likely some customers won’t be restored until tomorrow. We have had as many as 11,000 or more without power at some point today in Clovis.
We’ve had a total of 36,000 customers who have experienced outages since the storm began across the region, and we’ve restored close to 88 percent of that number. Outside of Clovis at the present time, we have several hundred without power scattered across our Texas-New Mexico service area.
The winds and snow picked up across the region late in the afternoon, but we expect the system to begin moving out tomorrowmorning which will help speed the restoration. Local authorizes and highway departments have been very supportive in helping to clear the way for our employees to move about in the areas most affected by the storm. This has been a team effort and we commend all those who have placed themselves in dangerous and uncomfortable situations to ensure the safety of our employee and customers. And of course we are grateful for the tireless efforts of our own employees in getting the lights back on under such difficult circumstances.
