Xcel Energy issued the following statement this morning, (Sunday, December 27)
As of 8:30 a.m. CST we had 9,433 customers without power in our Texas-New Mexico service area. Close to 4,500 are in our Clovis, N.M., district alone, where one outage has affected more than 3,000 customers in North Clovis overnight. Those customers are fed from a substation where we experienced equipment failure, and we are still working on the repair. White-out conditions have slowed, and in some cases, stalled our personnel traveling between towns to assist, but with daylight we expect to pick up the pace of restoration. We are not providing estimated restoration times at this point.
One of the phone numbers to our dispatch center has been shared with customers in the Clovis area, and we ask that customers only contact us through our toll-free customer service line of 1-800-895-1999. Calling the dispatch center slows down our response. Customers can also report outages atwww.xcelenergy.com/outages.
The high winds are the primary reason for these outages. We have reports of broken poles and cross arms all across the region, and have been called out to multiple locations where lines have been downed. It has been difficult to reach some of these areas because of impassable roads and poor visibility, but we are making progress.
I will provide several more updates throughout the day.
