The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office released today that they have called the Texas Rangers in to investigate the death of an inmate in the Hockley County Jail early Friday morning.
Texas Rangers said their investigating officer was called by the Sheriff’s Office around 1:30am Friday morning to investigate the death of 29 year old Joshua Brown at the jail. Bryan Witt with the Texas Department of Public Safety said late Friday that Brown died from self inflicted injuries. Brown was discovered by jail officers at just before mid-night Friday. Officers performed CPR before transporting him to Covenant Hospital in Levelland where he was pronounced dead at 12:30am Friday morning.
Brown was arrested last Tuesday by Levelland Police on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. The investigation into the death is ongoing pending the results of an autopsy which is being performed in Lubbock.
