Sandhills Celebration Underway In Olton

The 36th Annual Olton Sandhills Celebration is underway in Olton, continuing through Saturday.

Activities for Thursday night include the 2015 Sandhills Sweetheart Pageant at 7pm in the Olton High School Auditorium.  Admission is $3 per person.  The theme for the evening is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”  Raffle tickets will also be on sale each night through Saturday evening.  The final drawing will take place Saturday night.

Activities on Friday night include booths opening for arts and crafts and food vendors at the Pavilion grounds from 5pm to midnight.  The Olton Ambulance Association will also serve hamburgers at the Pavilion beginning at 6pm.  A dog show will also be held beginning at 6pm with registration to start at 5pm.  For more information on the dog show contact Janet Smith at 285-3305.  A volleyball tournament will be held beginning at 6pm at Stiles Park as well.  At 7pm the 4th barbecue cook-off will be held on the grounds south of the Pavilion.  The entry fee for the cook-off is $150 and all contestants will compete in both categories, brisket and pork ribs.  The meat will be provided for each contestant.  Cooking will take place from 7pm Friday to 11am Saturday.  The public will be able to purchase plates for $10 each on Saturday.  At 8pm a dance is scheduled for Friday evening.

Activities on Saturday include a breakfast sponsored by the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association from 7am to 9am.  Booths for arts and crafts and foods will be open beginning at 8am.  At 10am the annual Sandhills Parade will begin on Main Street in Olton.  An open house is scheduled for the Sandcrawl Museum at 11am and Heritage Manor will receive guests until 4pm.  An Antique Car Show will be held in the Security State Bank parking lot in Olton beginning at 11:15am and the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association hamburger lunch will take place beginning at noon on Saturday.  Several other events are scheduled as activities for the kids throughout the afternoon on Saturday.  All Olton Schools will be open for tours beginning at 2pm on Saturday.
