Texas Department of Transportation began a road project on West Avenue from Houston Street North to Highway 114 today.
Local Supervisor for TxDOT, Gary McClendon told KLVT News that the project will involve resurfacing the road, it will not be a full re-seal of the road, that portion of the project will have to wait. We are told this is being done in preparation for a new cross walk and school crossing sign and signal which will be installed near the former West Elementary building which is now owned by Children’s Hope.
We are told by officials that the building will be used by Mullins ISD to educate all Children’s Hope students. You will recall that earlier this year, Levelland ISD was notified by Children’s Hope that they had entered into a contract with Mullins ISD to handle educational services for Children’s Hope students effective with the 2015-2016.
Motorists are urged to use caution in the area and to obey all traffic control devices being used in the project. Temporary stop lights have been put in place in the construction zone and traffic is all being detoured to one lane in the area.
