A parade, live music, historical displays, games and numerous other activities are scheduled this weekend in Morton during the Texas’ Last Frontier Heritage Celebration in Morton. The events kick off at 8am Saturday and continue until 4pm.
The Last Frontier Heritage Parade will go through downtown Morton, and a Decorate My Bike contest is being sponsored by the Morton Lions Club.. The parade starts at 9:30am at Strickland Park at the intersection of Grant and southwest third. After it ends a historical marker will be dedicated at the county Annex/Winder building. Tours of the Last Frontier Museum will be held throughout the day. Other activities will be held at the Cochran County Park.
Activities at the park include a brisket cook off benefiting MYR KIDS junior riders, Live music provided by Last Amen and John and Bette Hope, Young Ladies tea party with Buffalo Soldier Rosieleeta Reed, Water Games provided by the Morton volunteer Fire Department, bingo, Dominoes, Chess and more.
The MYR Kids Junior riders Play Day will be held at the Cochran County Rodeo Grounds. There is a $1 admission fee.
A community wide worship service will be held at 11am Sunday in the park, followed by a Sunday meal of chicken fried steak or chicken strips at the Cochran County Activity building.
