The Hockley County Jail received its annual state inspection this week. An employee with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards gave the facility a passing grade according to Sheriff R.C. Cheek
The 64 bed facility had 52 inmates as of last report. The sheriff noted that the county is paying approximately $40,000 a month to house prisoners in other counties. Jail inmates who cannot be housed here are held in Bailey, Terry and Yoakum counties.
Not all of the county’s inmates can be housed locally because of federal requirements.
