Whiteface Sixth Graders Win U S Army STEM Competition

The U S Army made the announcement over the weekend that a team from Whiteface won the 6th grade eCybermission for 2015.

Awards were given to the students in Hunt Valley, Maryland.  Among the activities for the teams was a visit to Capitol Hill, including a chance to meet federal lawmakers.

The eCybermission is a web based STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics competition for 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade teams.  Teams propose solutions to community problems and compete for awards.

The Water Warriors from Whiteface developed distillation units to clean hydraulic fracturing wastewater for reuse.  Team members include, Dwayne Scott, Kaden Moses, Kaleb Ruthhardt, and Elizabeth Casarez.  The team advisor is Laura Wilbanks.

The Whiteface team was the only team from Texas to win one of the 4 National awards.

Each member of the team received $5,000 in US Savings Bonds.
