City Manager, Rick Osburn released information this morning that the first illegal intrusion at the Levelland Oxy Sports Complex occurred this past weekend. The intruders caused very little to no damage to the facility, however, they did climb the fence and were able to get into the concession stand. We were told by Erik Rejino with the City of Levelland this morning that the concession stand was left unlocked accidentally by the league currently operating it, which is the Levelland Youth Baseball League.
The intruders did not cause any damage to the facility, however they did steal and/or damaged an undetermined amount of food products belonging to the Youth Baseball League.
City administration noted that early in the project there was a local individual who approached the city and wished to donate and install the sound system and video surveillance system. He worked with engineers and construction managers during the design and construction of the project to assure the necessary conduit was properly installed. He began working on installing the system prior to the grand opening in April but has not yet completed the installation. The video surveillance system has not yet been installed.
City Manager Rick Osburn spoke with the individual Tuesday and informed him the work must be completed as soon as possible and if that was not possible than the city would look for another vendor. A decision is expected this week. The city is prepared to move quickly in securing another vendor and getting the job complete.
